ACE Community Service Obligation Program

Pathways to Entitlement under Smart and Skilled

Do you need extra support?

Some students need extra support to access training and to be ready to take full advantage of training offered under Smart and Skilled.

From 1 January 2015, eligible students will be able to access support and foundation training from approved Adult and Community Education (ACE) providers. SkillsLink Training is an ACE provider.

Approved ACE providers receive community-service-obligation funding to provide training for disadvantaged students and regional and remote communities who need assistance to access Smart and Skilled entitlement training.

Do you experience any of the following?

  • Need assistance with reading, writing and numeracy
  • Experience ongoing personal issues which affect your ability to attend or succeed with your learning
  • Live in a regional or remote community where access to Smart and Skilled entitlements is difficult.

If you answered YES to one or more of the above, you could qualify for subsidised training at an approved ACE provider.

Are you eligible for this training?

To be eligible for government subsidised training under Smart and Skilled, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen, and
  • aged 15 years or older
  • not at school, and
  • living or working in NSW.

If you are intending to enrol in a part qualification, you are entitled to enrol in a subsidised Smart and Skilled ACE program.

Is this program for you?

Approved ACE providers will provide additional support to learners who experience barriers to accessing Smart and Skilled entitlements. This may include:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • students with a disability
  • long term unemployed
  • students who are Commonwealth welfare recipients and their dependents
  • migrants/refugees who are unemployed or underemployed
  • people with other barriers to Smart and Skilled entitlement
  • people in regional and remote communities where Smart and Skilled entitlements cannot easily be accessed.
